Colorado Springs Fire Department gives fireworks reminder ahead of July Fourth holiday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- On Sunday morning, one man was charged after fireworks accidentally ignited in his storage unit. The Colorado Springs Fire Department says it's a reminder that fireworks pose a risk even if you don't plan on lighting them.
According to CSFD, Sunday's incident was the first fireworks accident of the season, and firefighters are hoping it's the last. Here are the reminders the fire department is giving people ahead of 4th of July weekend:
- Fireworks are legal in El Paso County, but not in the Colorado Springs city limits
- In Pueblo, anything that launches off the ground is illegal
- Fireworks are illegal in Fremont and Teller County
The Colorado Springs Fire Department says they responded to 900 complaints for fireworks last year and it ties up their resources.
If you do have fireworks you can drop them off at any fire station no questions asked. The penalty for being caught with fireworks is a $2,500 fine and up to 180 days in jail.
