Western Street Breakfast returns, kicks off rodeo season
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday morning kicked off rodeo season in Colorado Springs with the Western Street Breakfast. The event is one of the most iconic in Colorado Springs to celebrate its deep-rooted western heritage.
"It’s unique in this country to have a main intersection shut down and people come out to a street party and people come out to support an industry like the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo," said Don Moon, a Colorado Springs resident.
The Western Street Breakfast raises money for military members and their families. It also promotes the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. Last year, because of COVID-19, was the first time since World War II that both events were canceled.
"Not being able to do it because of COVID was really strange, so it’s awesome to see this many people here at 5 o' clock in the morning having pancakes and eggs. The whole idea is come down, spend a few bucks, and all the money goes to military families," said Brett Axton, the organizer of the Western Street Breakfast.
The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo kicks off on July 14th.
