CASA looking for male volunteers

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. (KRDO) - CASA of the Pikes Peak Region is hosting a volunteer recruitment event to find responsible male role models for boys in the Colorado Springs area.

The event 'Dudes and Brews' is an effort from CASA to recruit more Male volunteers. It's happening on Zoom on Tuesday, April 13 from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Current male volunteers will share their experiences, while CASA staff will be available to answer questions.

According to CASA, the effort to recruit more male volunteers is due to the high volume of boys in the system. In 2020, only 19 percent of CASA volunteers in the Pikes Peak Region were men. Of the roughly 900 children in the Pikes Peak Region who need a CASA volunteer to advocate for them due to abuse or neglect, half of them are boys.

CASA is emphasizing the need for more male volunteers because they believe boys with a positive role model are most likely to follow that exemplary cycle. Most boys who are in foster care have not necessarily had positive male role models in their lives, and they run a high risk of repeating the cycle of violence which often runs generationally through families.

CASA is looking to recruit more male advocates who can show boys what it looks like to be a safe, respectful, and responsible adult man.

To attend “Dudes and Brews,” RSVP on this webpage to receive the Zoom login information.
