US Postal Service warns of mail delays after weekend storm
The US Postal Service is warning people of weather-impacted delays due to last weekend's storm.
In a statement, the delivery service said their delivery services would be back on track once road and airport conditions improve, but as of Monday night, some flights were still being canceled.
A flight from Denver and another from Chicago, scheduled to arrive at the Colorado Springs Airport, were both canceled Monday night. Denver International Airport said they finally were able to reopen some of its runways Monday afternoon, after closing all operations for the day during Sunday’s blizzard.
According to USPS, the snow is also impacting mail delivery on the ground, especially across the Front Range.
USPS said they're advising their letter carriers to use good judgment when delivering to address where ice and snow are not cleared and to avoid delivery entirely at locations that are inaccessible.
Here are few ways you can help carriers stay safe and get your mail to you.
- Clear any snow within six feet of your mailbox
- Clear any snow and ice from overhangs to avoid injury
- Clear any snow from walkways to allow enough traction to avoid slips, trips, and falls.
In the event that USPS is unable to get your mail to you, it will be held at a local Post Office for you to pick up.
Customers coming to the Post Office to retrieve mail will need a photo ID.
