USPS sees historic volume of holiday mail and packages
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- The US Postal Service is working around the clock to ensure a timely delivery this year. This holiday season, the USPS says it's delivering a historic volume of mail and packages.
According to the United States Postal Service, serving the Colorado-Wyoming area, on Monday they delivered a record-breaking 971,000 packages.
In Colorado Springs, postal service workers are delivering up to 15-thousand packages before 9 a.m., according to U.S. Postal Service.
A veteran mail carrier who works out of the Cheyenne Mountain Station says this year is unlike any other.
"This has been the busiest week, of the busiest month for of the busiest year for the postal service and we are experiencing historic mail volumes and we are making sure we get everything delivered as best as we can for all of our customers," said Lisa Johnson.
Johnson says despite the high volume of packages this year, she's still excited to help deliver the joy of Christmas to people.
If you are looking to still send out your Christmas presents, Wednesday would be the last day for priority mail express to have a chance to make it by Christmas.
However, there is no guarantee it will get there on time due to the high volume of packages this year.
