A Colorado Springs food pantry helps families in need
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Dozens of families in Colorado Springs are getting a little bit of help for Thanksgiving meals this week.
Divine Redeemer Food Pantry is handing out 100 turkeys to families in need Monday so they can create a Thanksgiving meal. Students at the church are tasked with collecting food donations throughout the year for events like these.
According to the 2018 U.S. Census Bureau 9.9 percent of Coloradans in El Paso County suffered from poverty. The pandemic has brought many to suffer poverty this year and in El Paso County, residents are expected to experience the same.
In efforts to relieve some families from financial stress in Southern Colorado, Divine Redeemer Food Pantry dedicated themselves to helping families in the area through providing meals in the area.
Tricia Faber, volunteer coordinator with the church says they have been serving the community through donating items since 1969.
