COVID-19 cases at El Paso County Jail drop below 200

KRDO

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Jail reported one of the largest COVID-19 outbreaks earlier this week, but positive cases have dramatically dropped below a total of 200 on Wednesday.

On Sunday, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said it had 859 confirmed cases among inmates and 66 staff members who tested positive. But Wednesday, that number dropped to 148 positive inmates and 19 staff members.

The sheriff's office did not specify whether the inmates and staff members who had tested positive were now testing negative. KRDO has reached out to a spokesperson for further information.

Deputies say no inmates have been hospitalized in the latest outbreak. The jail's medical provider, WellPath, is treating all inmates.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
