New COVID-19 testing site opens in Fountain amid case spike

Monument testing site at Fire Station #1

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) - A new COVID-19 testing site opened up on Tuesday in Fountain, as part of a ramped-up effort to contain the spread of the virus.

The new site is located at Fountain Fire Station #1 at 811 N. Santa Fe Ave. It'll be open Monday through Friday every week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

El Paso County is also opening two new satellite testing sites.

One in Falcon, at the Rock Island Regional Trailhead at 7281 McLaughlin Road -- open Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

And another in Monument, in the Saint Peter's Catholic Church rectory parking lot at 55 Jefferson Street -- open Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

County health officials told KRDO Tuesday these additional testing sites are necessary to find out exactly how far the virus has spread.

"Testing is one of the key components of our ability to have a pulse on what’s happening with our cases in our community," said Lisa Powell. "It gives us a better opportunity to quickly make the shifts and changes that we need to in order to ensure that we don’t have this too far out of control."

Meanwhile, the county is still waiting to hear back about a mitigation plan sent to the state health department amid a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.

  1. If all Covid-19 testing was completely free, I think we’d get a better picture of what’s going on….

    1. That’s not what they want though. Notice this article is about opening yet another site and doing more testing. More testing means they can find more cases. Every time they find more cases, they set off the alarm bells and tell you this is all terrible, that there’s been a spike in new cases, and tell you that Trump is doing a terrible job so you should vote for Biden. That’s how it works!
If they would ever stop politicizing this virus and actually tell us the truth, it would really help.

  2. Hint…. If you are not dying or having severe symptoms do not go get tested. Stay home get better and get back to life. Since they are only making restrictions based on positive tests not hospitalizations or mortality rate then we need to skew it back.
It is dumb how they are threatening to shut things down when the hospitalizations are the same and the recovery rate is up 60% sine they now know how to treat it.
