EPC Public Health explains COVID-19 mitigation plan submitted to state
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - The El Paso County Health Department is waiting to hear back from the Colorado Department of Public Health about potential new restrictions for businesses in the near future after a recent rise in COVID-19 cases.
El Paso County Public Health told KRDO Monday that an updated mitigation plan was submitted to the state last week. The county has exceeded the case limit for Safer at Home: Level 1 for the past several weeks.
Local health officials said they'll continue to ask people to wash their hands, social distance and wear a mask.
The plan also provides more recommendations for businesses, like supplying flu shots, maximizing remote work, and putting effective sick policies -- as well as ways to expand dining options through the winter months.
If the mitigation plan is not approved by the State, then El Paso County will go from "Safer at Home" level 1 to level 3.
The incidence rate, or the number of cases per 100,000 people, has risen from 137 to 252 in the last two weeks.
If COVID-19 cases keep rising at this rate, we will exceed 350 by November 9th. That's the threshold to move into the "Stay at Home" guidelines.
However, a spokesperson for El Paso County Public Health told KRDO Monday they think it's "a bit preemptive" to talk about the possibility of a stay at home order since they're hoping the mitigation plan works.
