Crash in Commerce City kills 2, including police officer
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A police officer and another person were killed in a crash in Commerce City on Friday evening.
Around 6:20 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a fatal crash in the area of Highway 2 and Turnberry Parkway. Although Commerce City is within the police department's jurisdiction, CSP responded because the incident involved a police officer.
Investigators say a Ford F350 was driving southbound on Highway 2 while an unmarked Commerce City Police Department Ford Explorer traveled northbound. A third vehicle, a Kia Soul was also traveling northbound on Highway 2.
The F350 traveled off the right side of the road onto the shoulder, then came back onto the roadway and collided with the Explorer and Kia. Troopers say the F350 struck the Explorer head-on and collided its side with the driver’s side of the Kia.
The Commerce City Police officer, 37-year-old Curt Holland, and the Kia driver, 31-year-old Francesca Dominguez, were both killed in the crash.
Officer Holland served the Commerce City Police Department for 4 years, 4 months, according to Colorado State Patrol.
Paramedics transported the driver of the F350, 45-year-old Fructoso Rosales-Cano, to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
State patrol said alcohol and excessive speed are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash.
This case remains under investigation, and state troopers are asking that any witnesses contact them at 303-239-4501 with any relevant information.
