Pueblo West High School unexpectedly closes after COVID-19 case
PUEBLO WEST, Colo. (KRDO) -- On Monday, Pueblo County School District 70 was set to complete the transition from online-only to in-person learning across the district; then the district hit a speed bump.
Pueblo West High School was closed after an individual tested positive for COVID-19. District officials needed the school closed down in order to investigate.
One individual tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently recovering in isolation, the district said. Through exposure tracing, D70 discovered two other individuals were exposed and need to quarantine for the next 14 days. It is unclear if the three are students, teachers, or staff.
Students were inside of the building last week during the orientations, where students in small groups visited their classes for ten minutes.
"From what we've been able to determine in our investigation. The [confirmed case] had been exposed outside of the school at a previous event," said Todd Seip with D70. "They were not showing symptoms when they were at the school."
Pueblo West H.S. wont remain closed for long. Students are already set to return to the classrooms starting tomorrow.
