Colorado Springs man bikes 24 hours straight for local charity

Daryl Spano biking to raise money and awareness for local Kids on Bikes charity

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - One Colorado Springs man is spending his rainy weekend biking 24 hours straight to raise money and awareness for a local charity.

53-year-old Daryl Spano is aiming to raise around two thousand dollars for Kids on Bikes, a Colorado Springs charity that provides children in need with bikes at a reduced price.

Daryl told KRDO he's excited people are starting to get outside and bike more during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It's so great seeing whole families out riding. It builds the neighborhood community, and it makes everybody happy," he explained during an interview with KRDO mid bike ride Saturday.

Daryl said he wants to make sure every child in the area gets that opportunity.

"That's what keeps me going, and that's why I'm doing this," he said.

Daryl believes people should use their own gift to help others.

"Essentially, don't try to ride 24 hours unless you're used to that -- but use your talents the best way you can.”

You can donate money or bicycles to Kids on Bikes through Daryl's Go Fund Me page, or directly on the Kids on Bikes website.
