Homeowners concerned over lack of answers after floods from recent storms

Storm water

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Last Thursday, many parts of Colorado Springs experienced heavy rain. But one neighborhood near Siferd Blvd and Austin Bluffs experienced flooding possibly caused by new construction nearby.

"I was walking in ankle deep water so I could see where the water was coming from," said Steven Goodwin who shot video of water accumulating in his backyard during a storm last week.

"We started putting towels around the door as a barrier and then we saw it was coming from under the wall, adjoining the backyard," he said.

He is still dealing with the mess.

"We've put down moving blankets on our floor and put furniture back down and we're walking around concrete slab right now," he said.

His neighbor, Hope LaMonica, showed us the damage at her home, just a few feet away.

"This is where the water came through, it still has the white residue. The floor is buckled here and the wall has started to separate," she shared.

They believe it's a result of building houses at a higher elevation right behind them, which has caused run-off to come into their homes.

"They're kind of set on a slope, so whenever it rains since they've built those homes, it comes into our yard," she said.

The city tells us they've had a team inspect the area and are now looking into what comes next.

"He's not promised he could do anything, but but he said he'd look into it so he's researching," LaMonica said.

Until then everytime clouds move in, LaMonica worries about what could happen.

"Anxious. I keep looking to see if there's rain in the forecast bit we're Colorado Springs so it may not be in the forecast but wet we'll get that afternoon storm," she said.
