D20 temporarily closes Frontier Elementary, moves Aspen Valley to remote learning

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs School District says it will temporarily be closing Frontier Elementary on Friday and moving Aspen Valley High School to remote learning until further notice.

Frontier Elementary School has one confirmed COVID-19 test, a spokesperson said. However, several staff and students were quarantined earlier this week and a second-grade class was quarantined Thursday as well.

D20 says it is closing the school for one day ahead of the weekend to decide how to move forward. Health officials are awaiting the test results for three individuals who are already in isolation.

Frontier Elementary School will send staff and families more information on its plan no later than Sunday, August 30th at noon.

Aspen Valley High School also reported one student who was showing coronavirus symptoms. The student was last in the building on Monday and has not tested positive for COVID-19. However, several staff and students are in quarantine due to close exposure with the symptomatic student.

Aspen Valley started with in-person learning but will now transition to online learning until further notice. The symptomatic student will stay remain home until no longer infectious.
