Coloradans dominate 2020 Pikes Peak Marathon
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Runners endured wearing masks and breathing in smokey air for the 2020 Pikes Peak Marathon, starting in Manitou Springs Sunday morning.
As wildfires rage across the state, runners made their trek up the 14,115 foot mountain. The male and female winners were Seth Demoor from Englewood at 3:36:31 and Brittany Charboneau of Denver finishing at 4:25:21.
Some extra precautions were taken at this year's marathon. Runners told KRDO they normally participate in a variety of festivities the week of the race, but this year many were canceled.
Race organizers also implemented social distancing and sanitization precautions. Runners were instructed to wear their masks the first and last mile of the race, and at all water stands.
