KIOWA COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Highway 96, about five miles east of Eads in Kiowa County. Troopers say the accident happened just after noon on Friday.

A 2003 GMC 1500 pickup was traveling west on Highway 96 near mile marker 182. The driver of the pickup failed to stay in his lane while turning on a slight curve, colliding head-on with a 2020 Kenworth truck pulling an empty trailer.

The driver of the GMC was identified as 30-year-old Nicholas Seigle from Wichita, Kansas. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kenworth was identified as 65-year-old Damas Perrin from Travie, Texas. He was flown to a Colorado Springs hospital with serious injuries.

CSP says alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be factors in this crash. Troopers are still investigating.
