1 dead after structure fire in Old Colorado City
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - One person was found dead after fire crews in Colorado Springs battled a structure fire late Monday night.
CSFD got the call around 10:45 pm and responded to a duplex engulfed in flames on 14th Street in the Old Colorado City area.
Captain Mike Smaldino with Springs Fire says they were able to locate one of the occupants, but one person was found dead at the scene.
As for the fire itself, the narrow road made for a tight fit but crews were able to get water on the fire quickly. Due to the embers in the air, Colorado Springs Fire added an extra engine and brush truck to patrol the area and make sure there were no spot or grass fires.
After about 45 minutes of fighting the fire, the 36 firefighters on the scene were able to quickly gain control of the fire. However, due to the damage that was done, it was too dangerous for investigators to go into the structure during the night. Around 8 a.m. investigators went into the duplex to begin their investigation.
