State leaders reinforce USPS, voting in Colorado
DENVER (KRDO) -- Gov. Jared Polis was among several others who met inside the Denver Elections Division’s signature verification room for a press conference Monday to speak about voting by mail in Colorado.
"Elections are safe and secure and the results are accurate," Polis said.
The conference was meant to debunk recent remarks and posts by President Donald Trump decrying mail-in voting. The local leaders also discussed Colorado’s preparedness to legally challenge the administration’s efforts to undermine mail-in voting.
"Daily attacks and misinformation from the President of the United States are not something he started in the past couple of days," said U.S. Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colorado). "For months, he's made false claims on mail-in voting, something we've had here in Colorado for years."
El Paso County voters led the state in returned ballots for the Nov. 5 election, according to Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman.
Colorado also set a record for the highest-ever turnout for a non-presidential primary, with over 99.3% of votes cast using mail-in ballots and drop boxes in June, according to Secretary of State Jena Griswold.
"We are second in the nation for voting turnout," Polis said.
