Western Colorado fires grow in warm weather, drought

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Wildfires burning in western Colorado continue to grow in warm, windy weather, fueled by drought conditions.
The Pine Gulch Fire near Grand Junction is 91.9 square miles while the Grizzly Creek Fire east of Glenwood Springs is at 7.2 square miles.
Firefighters say that if it crosses No Name Creek, some homes in Glenwood Springs north of Interstate 70 would be told to be prepared to evacuate.
A 57-mile stretch of I-70 is closed because of the fire, forcing drivers to take detours. The highway over Independence Pass near Aspen has also been closed because too many had been taking it as an alternative.
