Why Colorado Springs school districts keep changing plans

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The first day of school is changing for many districts in Colorado Springs.

On Wednesday evening, Colorado Springs District 11 announced they were pushing their state date to August 24th, from the original date of August 17th.

Now, school administrators are discussing starting the year off remotely, instead of in-person.

"It's a conversation that's happening now," Devra Ashby, public information officer for D11 explained.

Widefield School District 3 followed suit and pushed back their start date. Academy School District 20 delayed their start date a week ago, too.

"Everyone is frustrated because they don't know what to do with their kids," explained Katie Lee, a parent and employee at D11.

School officials have been quick to say, they too are also dealing with the ever-changing pandemic in our community.

"We continue to get informed and briefed, daily, daily, on the changing health data from El Paso County Public Health and the Colorado Department of Health too. That kind of information and that influx of information continues to make our plans change," Ashby said.

A final decision on remote-learning hasn't made yet. It's unclear when administrators will make the call.

Lee hopes whatever decision is made, keeps her students safe.

"We don't know what it's going to look like in January, or October, November. We just don't know.
