Family mourns 12-year-old girl accidentally shot, killed in Fountain

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- Family members confirmed to KRDO that Miana Charity died of a gunshot wound Wednesday night inside her Fountain home.

Thursday Fountain police said it appeared the shooting was accidental, but could not clarify if she accidentally shot herself, or if someone else accidentally shoot her.

No arrests or charges have been filed in this case and police could not say whether there is still the potential for criminal charges.

A relative close to Miana says she was spunky, loved to dance and enjoyed the zoo. They told KRDO News she was entering 6th grade.

Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 sent us this statement Thursday:

Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 is aware that one of our students has died following a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday, July 22. The district will have counseling staff available to support students and staff in need. We are working closely with the Fountain Police Department and will not comment further on the police investigation.
