COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo announced that it's received a new two-year-old male giraffe from the Tulsa Zoo.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday morning, the local zoo's care team says the "handsome" Ohe (pronounced Oh-Hee) has been settling in well.

"The Tulsa Zoo did a great job training him for his travel to us," said Jason Bredahl, the African Rift Valley animal care manager. "When Ohe arrived, he calmly walked off the trailer, started checking out his new home and munched on elm leaves, which seems to be his favorite tree to snack on. Ohe engages with staff daily during his shifting training sessions."

Bredahl says the young giraffe seems to already have become friends with the local zoo's 17-year-old female giraffe Msichana.

"They spend time together every day browsing on tree branches and getting to know each other," he said. "Ohe likes to rub his head and neck on Msichana's back and appears to be glad to have a giraffe friend with him as he settles in."

The care team at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo says Ohe will be under routine quarantine for a few more weeks before being introduced into the rest of the herd.
