Some Colorado Springs parents ready to give up on e-learning as report cards come in

Remote learning during coronavirus

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As the end of the school year nears, parents in Colorado Springs say they're frustrated with the e-learning process as they're juggling work responsibilities.

A parent who reached out to KRDO says, "As parents, we have been asked to continue to provide for our children, as well as becoming teachers for our students. Not all of us were part of the stay-at-home order. I have worked the entire time."

The parent, who has students in D11 elementary schools, says an art teacher told parents through a post on the school's portal that if students didn't complete their assignments, their end of year report would say "no evidence of learning."

The mother has since asked to stay anonymous, but she said, "We have tried and worked our hardest, and yet we will see a report card with 'no evidence of learning.'"

District 11 Superintendent Dr. Michael Thomas said today, "we are not exonerating their role as the primary k-12 instructor. We're not pushing that onto our families so when families do have a question, please make sure you're reaching out to your schools, teacher or administrators so that we can address any challenges that you're experiencing during this time."

Teachers are also aware their students might be coming into next year at a different pace than normal.

"Students are going to come in with some holes in learning and the beginning of next year isn't going to look like the beginning prior years," Christina Randle, a teacher from Harrison District 2 said.

Randle explains, they plan on making up for lost time.

"Students are going to come in with some holes in learning and the beginning of next year isn't going to look like the beginning prior years."
