El Paso County Sheriff’s Office investigating suicide inside jail
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a male inmate died Tuesday afternoon after hanging himself.
According to a spokesperson with the sheriff's office, it happened at about 1:15 p.m. when deputies were called to the men's housing ward for a medical emergency and found the inmate, who hasn't been identified yet.
The sheriff's office says the inmate wasn't breathing and had no pulse, but deputies tried CPR and used a defibrillator with the help of medical staff. Despite the efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead.
The incident is under investigation, and the sheriff's office says this is the first completed suicide inside the jail since June 2019.
