Colorado Springs installs a new red light camera on northeast intersection
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- City leaders in Colorado Springs installed a new red light camera on the intersection of Academy and Dublin Boulevard.
The camera went live April 30 and is part of the "Red Light Safety Camera Program" to reduce injuries and crashes caused by red-light running.
This is the fourth red light camera in Colorado Springs and will begin with a 30-day warning period before a $75 fine is implemented.
The Colorado Springs Police Deptartment says there are currently red light cameras at the following intersections:
- East Platte Avenue and Chelton Road (eastbound approach)
- Briargate Boulevard and Lexington Boulevard (westbound approach)
- Academy Boulevard and North Carefree Circle (northbound approach)
CSPD says the cameras operate 24-hours-a-day and capture images of vehicles when they run a red light at an intersection. Violations are issued after police personnel confirms a violation has occurred.
The city says it is expecting to add new cameras at a few more intersections later this year.
