Money Matters: Why Coloradans experienced late unemployment payments

On April 23 KRDO asked viewers if they have had any trouble receiving their unemployment payments.

Over 100 people commented on a KRDO post saying they had issues receiving their unemployment payment. A majority of people said they haven't received their payment despite records showing they were paid on April 14.

KRDO reached out to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment for answers.

The department said people received their payment on April 24.

Through an email exchange, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment went on to say that the issue with the payment delay was due to the size of the file that was sent to the bank, which was $100 million. That is the largest single transfer they've ever had to do.

According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, following the April 24 payment, they have not experienced any payment delays.

In Colorado, there were more than 67,000 unemployment claims filed between April 12 and April 18, bringing the total to nearly a quarter-million in the state.

The top 4 industries with the highest claims in Colorado in order are:

  • Accommodation and Food Services
  • Retail Trade
  • Healthcare and Social Service
  • Arts, Entertainment and Recreation
