WATCH: Memorial in Colorado Springs for WWII Veteran Donald Stratton
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A memorial service in Colorado Springs, followed by a motorcade procession, will be held for Pearl Harbor survivor Donald Stratton on Saturday.
WATCH LIVE from the Rocky Mountain Calvary Church:
Stratton survived the bombardment of the U.S.S. Arizona when Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor during World War II.
He was on the ship when it was hit by enemy fire and sunk into Pearl Harbor. Stratton survived only by a shipmate on another boat throwing him a literal lifeline.
Saturday's service will begin at 10 a.m. at Rocky Mountain Calvary Church. Attendees are encouraged to go early.
Following the service, a Colorado Springs Police motorcade will escort the casket through the city, and all the way to Stratton's hometown in Red Cloud, Nebraska, where he will be laid to rest.
Attendees are asked to wear red, white, and blue, or Hawaiian shirts in honor of Stratton.
