Monument resident captures driver in wrong lane near school zone

Monument driver in wrong lane

MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO) -- Monument police are looking into a recorded incident in which a person was driving in the wrong lane near a school zone.

Monument resident Mark Odette uploaded the video on Jan. 27, showing a white Mazda SUV trying to skip traffic but also approaching him head-on. The incident happened on Leather Chaps Drive and was recorded on his dashcam.

"I thought that was crazy enough it should be reported," Odette said.

But it's not the first time he's seen people drive recklessly around the area. Odette also has filmed drivers running stop signs and crosswalks without yielding to pedestrians.

"Well it's just become so common that it's getting frustrating," he said.

The Monument Police Department is looking into the incident and is already adding more patrol officers in the area.

"I really tell people to kind of be vigilant of the area," said Officer Andrew Romano. "Pay attention to who is crossing the crosswalk and who is driving and the direction they're going."

Romano's advice comes after a Monday incident in which a driver didn't follow a school bus stop-arm and hit a teenager in Colorado Springs.
