Two years after shootout, deputy uses Flick for strength
Two years after nearly losing his life, an El Paso County deputy is still on the mend, physically and emotionally.
Deputy Scott Stone took a bullet in the hip during the same shootout that killed one of his auto theft task force partners, Deputy Micah Flick.
Stone said this week that he continues to remain close with the Flick family.
He believes Micah's legacy of perseverance and moving forward is what helps him through the difficult days like this week's anniversary.
"I have really taken that to heart and I have pushed myself everyday to be the best person I can be and to move forward, and I'm going to keep doing that, because I know that's what Micah would have done," he said.
As a result of his injury, Stone has only partial function in his left leg, hip, and lower back.
He still works at the sheriff's office, conducting polygraph exams and helping screen applications from new recruits.
