Inmate, staffer injured in assault at Fremont County jail

CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- One inmate was seriously injured and a jail staffer was also injured in an assault at the Fremont County Detention Center this weekend.

The Fremont County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fight, which involved at least four inmates. It happened Saturday, but authorities haven't said exactly what happened.

Investigators say one of the inmates was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Three other inmates were placed on administrative lockdown. No identities have been released.

FCSO says one staff member was injured in the assault. It's not clear if the injured staffer was a deputy.
