FBI: Crime rates in Colorado Springs up for murder, robbery, assault
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Newly released statistics from the FBI show Colorado Springs violent crime went up in 2018.
The yearly analysis breaks down crime across the United States, breaking down each state and city.
The latest numbers from 2018 show that murders and manslaughter went up to 32 from 29 in 2017.
Robbery cases were up to 515 from 482 in 2017.
On a larger scale, the number of motor-vehicle thefts has nearly doubled in the last decade.
In 2010, 1,288 vehicles were stolen. By 2018, the number had increased to 2,399.
In 2018, there were 33 more cases of robbery and 219 more of burglary.
Property crime in Colorado Springs increased by 538 cases, but overall the crime is down compared to when it spiked in 2013 with 18,175.
The only violent crime down in Colorado Springs is rape with six fewer cases in 2018.
The report shows the population in Colorado Springs had increased from 397,886 in 2010, to 471,124 in 2018.
