MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. -- Greg Cummings has broken the record for the number of ascents up the Manitou Incline in one year with his 1,720th climb Saturday.

For the past 344 days, Cummings has averaged five climbs up the incline per day.

This is his third time beating the record.

"I'm still just trying to get my head around it," he said.

The road to get here hasn't been easy for him.

At 62 years old and after 38 years of battling type 1 diabetes, Cummings says he didn't know if he'd be able to continue at times.

"There were a number of times during the year I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to complete it. I had a very bad leg injury," he said.

But with his wife and daughter cheering him on, he completed his 1,720th run.

What's next for him?

He says he plans on beating his record time of getting up the incline.

As of now, his best time is 28 minutes and 16 seconds.
