Millennials are the reason for a busy Christmas tree season
A new study says millennials are the reason real Christmas trees are flying off the lots across the country.
The National Christmas Tree Association says 32.8 million trees were sold in 2018.
In Colorado Springs, the part-owner of Heidrich's Colorado Tree Farm Nursery says the trend is exploding in Colorado Springs.
"I can tell you that on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we averaged over one a tree a minute," said Levi Heidrich.
Heidrich expects to nearly sell out by Friday evening, nearly three weeks before Christmas.
"We're about done. We should have trees through the end of the day, maybe tomorrow morning but with the increased demand, we've sold through our trees pretty quickly."
The Christmas Tree Association says there was a 20% increase in purchases compared to 2017.
The reason?
Heidrich says, "Real Christmas trees are better for the environment. They are 100% biodegradable."
Eco-friendly or not, the Sanchez family says it's not Christmas without a real tree.
Marisela Sanchez says, "it brings it all together."
Other local vendors in Colorado Springs area selling real trees include:
- Summerland Gardens
- Phelan Gardens
- Good Earth Garden Center
- Ricks Garden Center
- Harding Nursery and Spencer's Lawn and Garden.
