Police describe suspect, getaway vehicle after shooting in Manitou Springs
MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.-- Manitou Springs Police Chief Brian Churchill says officers are still looking for a suspect who shot another man twice before fleeing in a blue minivan.
Police described the suspect as a white male of tan complexion, with a brown, "groomed, two to three inch beard," and a stocky build.
The suspect is believed to be armed with a 9mm handgun, police say.
His vehicle is described as a Town and County Minivan with Colorado plate JUO158.
Manitou Springs police responded to a call of shots fired near 141 Manitou Ave on Saturday evening. Witnesses told police that a man had been shot and was on the ground in front of the Dillon Motel.
Witnesses say the victim and the suspect in the van "had an exchange of words," then the male party in the van fired shots. The victim ran towards the Dillon Motel, where he fell near the south side of the building. Several guests of the hotel, who had heard the shots, had come outside and observed him on the ground and subsequently provided aid and called 911.
The victim had gunshot wounds to both his right and left shoulder areas, as well as an injury to his head, which police say was inflicted from a fall. The victim was transported to Penrose Main Hospital non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time a suspect has not been identified. Detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are assisting MSPD as they continue their investigation.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this article stated that the suspect's minivan was dark green. The latest information from police says that the vehicle is blue. This article has been updated to reflect that change.
