Woman says stranger pointed pepper spray at her in Colorado Springs park
A woman from Colorado Springs says she and her family were threatened with pepper spray at Monument Valley Park Sunday, and it's the third violent claim at the park in recent months.
Shannon King filed a police report after she says a complete stranger began menacing her five-year-old daughter for "not going fast enough" while learning to ride a bike.
"Fifteen minutes into the bike ride this lady is just screaming at her like 'get the hell out of my way', 'what are you doing little girl you need to learn how to ride' just really outrageous, scared the crap out of my daughter," King said.
Seconds before the situation escalated to the woman pointing pepper spray directly at her face, King says the stranger began yelling at her family, taking photos of them and threatening to call police for riding their bikes too slow.
"It was hard to hold back, more like is this really happening to us at a park? She's yelling at a five-year-old kid," she said.
King says that's when she also took her phone out to document what was happening. In the photos King captured, the woman pointed pepper spray directly at the camera.
"She said I'm going to shoot you and it was pointed directly at my face," King said.
Colorado Springs police say a report was filed but they haven't identified the woman in the photos.
They say they're hoping to find out her identity to speak to her about what lead up to the confrontation.
"My daughter is traumatized, it's not OK for that lady to act that way, or anyone," she said.
King is now sharing her story to warn neighbors and urge park goers to be cautious.
Police add it's still an open investigation and charges could be possible. Back in July, a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted in broad daylight, and then a few weeks after that, two suspects were arrested for attempting to set park-goers on fire.
