At least 11 Catholic priests named in Colorado report alive

catholic church abuse

DENVER (AP) - At least 11 Catholic priests accused of sexually abusing children in Colorado are still alive.

The Denver Post reports that some of them became social workers, religious leaders and counselors after leaving or being forced from the priesthood. Others remain priests and are retired and live in Denver and Pueblo.

A report released last month on sexual abuse in Colorado's three dioceses found 44 men had been accused of abusing 166 children over 70 years.

At least three priests' whereabouts are unknown and it's not clear if they are still alive.

One of the 11 whose locations are known is in prison. Timothy Evans was convicted of three counts of sexually assaulting a child in Fort Collins in 2007. He became eligible for parole in 2018.
