Teen with homicidal urges kills mother’s cat instead
An 18-year-old man in Colorado Springs said he brutally killed his mother’s cat because it would be easier than killing his mother.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region Animal Law Enforcement division was called to a home in mid-September after a woman found her cat dead in her son’s bedroom.
According to a report from HSPPR, the sergeant asked the woman’s son, 18-year-old Cohen Heath, what happened to the cat. Heath told the sergeant he originally had thoughts of killing a friend that was staying at his house, and then he thought of killing his mother.
Heath told the sergeant he decided to kill the cat “because it would be easier.” He put the cat in a bag and stabbed it in a storm drain, then mutilated the body so he could keep mementos, according to HSPPR.
Investigators found knives with blood and fur on them, and Heath was arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals, which is a class six felony. He was booked into custody on Sept. 13, according to CSPD.
