U.S. Senator Cory Gardner was in Monument Friday to meet with town officials, While here Senator Gardner also talked about some other topics important to Southern Colorado including, the Defense Spending Bill and U.S. Space Command.
Gardner said the Senate’s fiscal year 2020 Defense Appropriations includes hundreds of millions of dollars for Colorado, which Gardner takes credit for in securing.
“About 344 million dollars in programs and dollars for Colorado and Supported by Coloradans is included in the Defense Appropriations Bill,” said Gardner.
So now that nearly $350 million is secured, what will it go to?
” That includes, again, about $75 million in the defense community infrastructure program that can be used around our communities in Colorado that is impacted by defense spending, and also cyberworks programs at the Air Force Academy, money for Cheyenne Mountain Air Station on their cyber infrastructure. It also includes full funding for cyber force as well as Space Command, ” Gardner said.
He continues to stress the importance of funding our military and said he will do what he can moving forward.
” I was disappointed that unfortunately, a number of people voted against funding the military this past week. We will bring that up again this week, ” Gardner said. “Hopefully, people stop playing partisan games, stop playing politics and get this funded. It’s too important for Colorado, it’s too important for El Paso County and it’s too important for our cybersecurity . ”
