Fugitives traveling with child caught in Fountain hotel
Police got a tip that a possible kidnapped child was in a hotel in Fountain but ultimately ended up finding a pair of fugitives wanted out of North Carolina for violating sex offender registries.
Officers got the report about the man and woman with a child at the Fountain Inn on Champlin Drive. They contacted the pair, who originally gave false names before revealing their identities.
They turned out to be 27-year-old Cody Cardwell and 24-year-old Brie-anna Schroll. Cardwell was convicted in 2017 of sexual battery against a 4-year-old victim, according to the National Sex Offender Registry. Schroll was wanted for failing to report a sex-offense or non-compliance with the registry, according to the Fayetteville Observer.
According to the Harnett County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office, the two took a family member’s Ford Focus and fled.
The child with them was found to be Schroll’s child and wasn’t kidnapped, according to the Fountain Police Department.
Fountain police arrested Schroll and Cardwell for their outstanding warrants, and they’ll also be charged with criminal impersonation, according to the police department. Cardwell will also be charged for failure to register as a sex offender in Colorado.
