A family’s mission to add a traffic light to deadly Colorado Springs intersection
Friends and family hope Brianna Templeton’s tragic story inspires the city to add a stoplight at the intersection near Rangewood and Austin Bluffs, just south of Memorial Hospital.
On April 4th, 2018 Templeton was killed when a driver ran a stop sign at the intersection. Templeton’s family say she had just dropped her daughter off at school moments before the crash.
Her family and friends still keep a memorial in her honor at the corner where she died. Templeton’s family and friends say even over a year later, they’re afraid it could happen to someone else.
“When we are visiting Brianna’s memorial at the intersection of the accident, we watch as multiple drivers fly through this intersection without even a sideways glance that they just ran a stop sign. Many others slow but never come to complete stop.”
That’s why those who knew her are trying to bring change. They’re seeking signatures through an online petition to submit to the Colorado Springs City Council to show them they need to reconsider adding a traffic light at the intersection of Rangewood and Austin Bluffs.
The intersection currently has oversized stop signs which the family says don’t do enough.
Once the family gathers 5,000 signatures they are hoping to reach city leaders including those on the council, the head of public works and the Colorado Springs traffic engineer.
