Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Toasty Holiday Weekend Ahead! – 8/31/2019
Overview: The air will gradually warm during the holiday weekend with only isolated showers and thunderstorms expected over primarily mountain areas. Cooler air will work over the area next week bringing better chances for showers and thunderstorms to most areas.
Today: Any patchy low clouds over the plains will break up quickly this morning and most areas will be partly cloudy this afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible today with generally brief rainfall, gusty wind and some lightning over and near the mountains; some localized heavier downpours are possible with any storms that hold together over the plains. Away from thunderstorms the air will be very warm this afternoon with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains; mainly 70s to near 80 for our local mountain communities.
Tonight: Isolated showers and thunderstorms should wind down this evening leaving most areas partly cloudy through the night. Patchy low clouds may again develop over the plains of eastern Colorado late tonight into early Sunday morning with a partly cloudy to mostly clear sky expected over the mountains. By morning we expect the air will have cooled into the 50s to lower 60s for the plains with 40s to lower 50s for the mountains.
Sunday: The air will become a little drier but a quick shower or a crack of thunder will remain possible over and near the mountains; in general we don’t expect much rain. We’ll be breezy and a little warmer again with high temperatures climbing well into the 90s over the plains with 70s and 80s for the mountains and mountain valleys.
Extended: Labor Day should be breezy, hot and dry for most areas although we might still expect a very brief shower or a quick crack of thunder somewhere over the mountains. Cooler air will move over the area on Tuesday and Wednesday increasing the moisture and helping to support an increase in showers and thunderstorms over many areas. Thursday looks hot and drier although spotty showers and weak thunderstorms may still develop over a few areas. Another cold front may affect the area Friday into Saturday with another increase in our chances for showers and thunderstorms.
