Foreign countries issue travel warnings to U.S. after mass shootings
The Uruguayan and Venezuelan foreign ministries have issued travel warnings for citizens planning on traveling to the United States.
These advisories come in the wake of two mass shootings fewer than 24 hours apart in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio which left 31 dead.
The Venezuelan Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs released a statement Monday suggesting that Venezuelan citizens “postpone their travel [to the United States] or, in any case, take precautions” given “the proliferation of acts of violence and crimes of indiscriminate hatred, expressed last weekend in the towns of El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.”
The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry issued a similar travel statement Monday, which urged citizens “traveling to the United States to take precautions against growing indiscriminate violence, mostly for hate crimes, including racism and discrimination.”
Uruguayan nationals are advised to avoid public spaces where large crowds are likely to gather, “such as theme parks, shopping centers, festivals artistic, religious activities, gastronomic fairs and any kind of cultural or sporting events.”
