Colorado Springs police arrest twin bounty hunters at protest Monday
Police say that they arrested two bail recovery agents for disorderly conduct in downtown Colorado Springs during a protest for Saturday’s officer-involved shooting.
Law enforcement identified the two men as 33-year-old Dustin W. Brooks and 33-year-old Justin J. Brooks. The suspects are identical twin brothers who run a bail recovery agency called Twin OutLaw BrotherHood.
On Monday at approximately 11 a.m. citizens gathered at the Colorado Springs City Hall and then marched to the Police Operations Center on South Nevada Avenue. Their intent was to peacefully protest an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead Saturday night.
While protestors were demonstrating, Brooks and Brooks arrived on motorcycles wearing bulletproof vests, handcuffs, bail bonds badges, and handguns. When they approached the crowd, a verbal altercation erupted and one of the Brooks brothers was hit by a protestor. Both men then drew their handguns. Officers responded and took the brothers into custody for disorderly conduct.
No other individuals were arrested and no one was injured.
