3 arrested in violent Colorado Springs robbery spree

CSPD has arrested three men connected with a string of robberies in Colorado Springs between August 2016 and October 2016.

The suspects committed armed robberies at liquor stores convenience stores, and restaurants — often assaulting and threatening their victims with firearms — and frequently committed multiple robberies in one night.

The investigation came to a head on October 27, 2016 when patrol officers from the Sand Creek Division responded to a liquor store robbery and anticipated that a second robbery would be committed soon after. The officers saw the suspects approach the second liquor store and arrested 26-year-old Michael A. Ellis.

In a follow-up investigation, the CSPD Violent Crimes Robbery Unit identified the remaining suspects as 24-year-old Troy Patrick Brown and 29-year-old Rakeem Thomas Lewis.

CSPD reported the following charges:

Ellis was found guilty by jury of multiple counts of aggravated robbery and kidnappings on July 30, 2019. Sentencing of Ellis is scheduled for September 25, 2019. Brown was found guilty of similar charges by jury and sentenced to more than 100 years in the Department of Corrections in January 2018. Lewis pleaded guilty and was sentenced to more than 20 years in the Department of Corrections.
