Colorado Parks and Wildlife seeks public opinion in future state parks
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is looking to expand their network of state parks to outpace crowds and long lines.
There are currently 41 state parks across Colorado, but lately it seems like that’s just not enough. As parks draw more visitors every year, there is a growing demand to provide the public with unfettered access to “outstanding outdoor places,” CPW explained in a statement.
As such, they would like the public’s input.
“As CPW considers possible new properties, we want to hear from the public about what characteristics and qualities they would like to experience at future state parks,” said Dan Prenzlow, director of Colorado Parks and Wildlife. “Our vision is that Colorado’s state parks connect people to natural wonders. Every state park should offer a unique place to experience Colorado and live life outside.”
Their criteria are listed below:
• Outstanding nature-based recreation
• Natural resource value and conservation
• Meets Colorado’s needs
• Relevance and community value
• Financial sustainability
CPW will be reviewing submissions to their community forum until August 15. They will consider the comments and present a final version of their criteria to the public in September.
