Colorado Springs educator gets 16 years to life for child sex assaults

A former educator and cheer coach in Colorado Springs was sentenced to 16 years to life in the Department of Corrections Monday after pleading guilty to sexual assaults against multiple children.

Keean Davis pleaded guilty to two counts of sex assault of a child by someone in a position of trust, sexual contact with no consent, and witness tampering. He got six years to life for the first two counts, four years for another count, and 12 months in county jail. He’ll also serve at least 10 years on parole if he ever is released.

Davis gave drugs to two students and sexually assaulted them on several occasions, according to court records. Davis tried to sexually assault a third victim, as well. He was arrested in fall of 2018.

Family members of two of the victims spoke in front of the court during Davis’ sentencing hearing Monday. They said that Davis stole the childhood from their sons. One victim’s mother said the victim used to play football and was active, but he has since quit football and has begun engaging in dangerous self-destructive behavior.

Another victim’s father said Davis didn’t follow a restraining order and then threatened his son when he was out on bond. “Once again, nothing applies to Mr. Davis,” the victim’s father said.

The victims’ family members said the fact that Davis was eligible for probation was “crazy.” “I can’t believe this is even an option,” the father said.

Prosecutors said they believed there would be more victims if Davis was released. A psychosexual evaluator reported that Davis had a high risk of reoffending and is a danger to the community. The evaluator said Davis qualified as a sexually violent predator.

The prosecution added that Davis was “going to keep finding targets, grooming them, and preying upon them.”

“These victims are going to live with the scars of what Davis did to them for the rest of their lives,” said one prosecutor, who cited the differences in the victims’ behavior. “They’ve run away from home, they’ve gone through significant changes in their personalities, they’re not the same as they were before this.”

Prosecutors asked for 18 years to life, and a plea agreement included an 18-year cap.

Judge Jill Brady said she believes Davis is a significant risk and that he created the situation for these boys. She then gave him the 16-year-to-life sentence.

When the sentence was read, a woman who identified herself as Davis’ sister had an emotional outburst targeting one of the victims’ family members who spoke in the court earlier.

The woman stood up and pointed at the victim’s father and said, “I got you, believe that,” before leaving and being escorted out of the courthouse by deputies. The victim’s father told the court, “She just threatened me,” but the woman wasn’t taken into custody.

A former educator in Colorado Springs will be sentenced after pleading guilty to child sex assault.

Colorado Springs police said back in October that investigators learned Davis possibly gave a juvenile narcotics and then sexually assaulted the victim. Davis was arrested and charged with sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

We’ve reached out to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for more specific information on Davis’ potential sentence.

According to an arrest affidavit, a male student at Sand Creek High School approached an officer and reported that Davis had taken him to a hotel, given him drugs and alcohol, and had non-consensual sex with him.

The student detailed that the incidents happened between late September and October. Davis was a former paraprofessional for the student and reached out to him after the 2017-2018 school year ended. Davis kept talking to the student and asked him to meet up.

Court documents say that the most recent sexual assault was at a hotel in Colorado Springs on Oct. 23. That’s when the student reported that Davis gave him Percocet, Xanax, and alcohol. The student said he woke up with pain in his rear and believed Davis had anal sex with him while he was “extremely high” on the drugs.

The student had also had other encounters with Davis while he was listed as a runaway in late September. During that time, the student was reportedly provided cocaine, acid, mushrooms, Percocet, Xanax, and alcohol.

The student confronted Davis while he was working as a security guard at Vista Peak Preparatory School in Aurora and confirmed that Davis had sex with him and supplied drugs.

Police said he was employed with the Aurora School District and had worked with three districts in the Springs area.
