National Mill Dog Rescue in Peyton receives cease and desist order from state board

National Mill Dog Rescue is being investigated by two Colorado agencies and was given a cease and desist order by the State Board of Veterinary Medicine.

The order was given to Theresa Strader, the executive director and founder of NMDR. It orders Strader to stop the unlicensed practice of veterinary medicine as of June 28th, 2019. In it, it claims she falsified vaccination records and issued vaccinations to dogs without a veterinarian present.

Part of it reads, “there is credible evidence that Respondent has acted without the required license to practice veterinary medicine”.

It also says that Strader, “used a licensed veterinarian’s signature stamp on vaccination certificates without the veterinarian’s permission.”
We reached out to NMDR for comment, but have not heard back.

This story started from a Huffington Post article that was published earlier this week. They spoke with NMDR’s former marketing director who filed complaints to the state claiming the non-profit falsified rabies documents, and more than once delayed or failed to provide needed veterinary treatment among other allegations.

These claims led to two investigations into the group by the State Department of Regulatory Agencies and the Department of Agriculture.

We reached out to both agencies who say they cannot comment on on-going investigations.

On the NMDR’s Facebook page, Strader responded to the HuffPost article saying the story was intended to be negative from the start and addressed some of what was said in the post.

However, nowhere in the post does it talk about the allegations against her or the cease and desist letter from the state.
