07/13/19 Forecast Discussion
Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are already developing over higher elevations with the biggest concerns being strong outflow wind gusts, lightning, and heavy downpours. These storms are very slow-moving and will struggle to reach into valley locations. I do anticipate a few scattered thunderstorms to cross I-25 by early evening then quickly dissipate as they move east. Precipitation chances diminish overnight with a low temperature of 59 in Colorado Springs.
Sunday: Morning sunshine with increasing cloud coverage through the day. By early afternoon El Paso county will see temperatures in the high 80’s to low 90’s with temperatures approaching 100 across HWY 50. The trend of diurnal afternoon thunderstorms will continue, with the coverage of storms being slightly greater than that of today. There is the potential of one or two of the thunderstorms to be severe with small hail, heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds.
Extended: Temperatures staying a few degrees above average to start the workweek, afternoon scattered thunderstorms will persist through mid-week.
