Woman brutally attacked near Bear Creek Park speaks out

Two weeks after a brutal attack, a woman who was beaten with a metal bar at a Colorado Springs park is speaking out.

She’s asked KRDO to conceal her identity out of fear of her attacker, who hasn’t been arrested yet.

The victim was running along a trail east of Bear Creek Park, near Beta Loop and Sirius Drive just before 7 a.m. on June 27th.

“The first strike was from behind the head. I thought a tree branch fell on me, so I turned around to see what happened I saw this man with an iron bar, and he went to strike me again,” she explained.

The suspect hit her two more times.

“I could see his face and I could tell he was going to hurt me,” she said.

The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man wearing a white tank top, black sweat pants, was carrying a black backpack and has a thin build.

Colorado Springs Police spokesperson, Natasha Kerr told KRDO over the phone, “Detectives did an extensive search, didn’t find anyone immediately in that location.”

Kerr explained police are following up on leads, but no suspect has been identified.

The victim is waiting anxiously for her assailant to be found.

“I’m scared. I’ve never been scared before. He’s still out there. I’m just waiting for them to catch him.”

She said her only mistake — was wearing headphones on her run.

Now she hopes her story will warn others to always be on the lookout, no matter the time of day, or trail.
