Wildfire burning on Mt. Blanca near Great Sand Dunes

Update: As of Wednesday morning, the Tobin Fire is estimated to be around 10 acres and is 0% contained.

There were 30 firefighters on the scene Wednesday and one helicopter was en route.

A wildfire started burning near the base of Mt. Blanca Tuesday, according to the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office. The fire is estimated to be about 30-50 acres in size as of 8:30 p.m.

The fire had burned about two acres by 2:30 p.m. and was zero-percent contained. Two firefighting airplanes and a helicopter are helping with the firefighting efforts.

WATCH:

Colorado Fire Prevention and Control confirmed that the fire was being fought from the air and named the blaze the Tobin Fire.

The cause of the fire isn’t known at this time.
